District 5170
Oakland Members
Oakland #3 is the third oldest Rotary Club in the World, founded in 1908 just three years after Rotary’s start in Chicago (#1) and its extension to San Francisco (#2). Our Rotary Club is one of 56 clubs belonging to District 5170, an area extending from Oakland south to Watsonville.

Oakland #3 was celebrated by "Rotary Global History Fellowship Day" in August of 2009.

A Century of Service & Friendship: The Story of the Rotary Club of Oakland, No. 3

1978 - Oakland asked RI why Duarte had their charter revoked for admitting women into Rotary. The general secretary's response.

Oakland #3, known then as Tri-City was having very poor attendance. "It was at its lowest in August of 1910 when the first Rotary convention was held in Chicago during which a National Association of Rotary Clubs was organized. Tri-City failed to send representation - either by delegate or by proxy. (page 41 Rotarily Yours, RC of Oakland 1969)
