The Rotary Club of Queensway (君域扶輪社) was chartered on 19 November 1992, as the first woman’s only Rotary club in Hong Kong, under the auspices of Rotary International District 3450, comprising of Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia. With a goal towards diversity and respect for individual needs, within three months, a male Rotarian was accepted into the club and Charter President Gloria Cheng (nee Chan) stated that she had no intension of excluding anyone as it would defeat the purpose of embracing diversity in the first place! Within ten years, CP Gloria Cheng became the first female District Governor of Rotary International District 3450 in the 2002-2003 term, pioneering chartering a new era for woman in Rotary in the Asia Pacific region. Our Club continues to flourish through the years and our most prominent project to date has been the "Hepatitis B immunization" program. We immunized over 50,000 infants and children in China within a period of five years and this was adopted as a district project during the 2002-2003 year before the Chinese Ministry of Health took over. We continue to support many local and international service projects, including the annual World Heart day, organized by the Hong Kong College of Cardiology; St. John’s Cathedral HIV/AIDS Educational Center’s annual AIDS Festival; water provision projects in Guizhou to increase access to water for families in need, and other local service projects.
